Proposed constitutional amendments or charter change

There are too many existing problems with regard to the 1987 that I think sooner or later the constitution will be changed, regardless of the vehement opposition of a few but influential people. Thus, I am opening a thread on the topic, so the voice of the people can be heard.

I would like to start it by proposing that the terms of office of public officials be put back to four years, as it was before. This is the major reason why the opposition has been trying to oust PGMA.  And, if you had listened carefully to what opposition people were saying during the Garci tape scandal, one of them said it: PGMA's term is way too long.

I propose that the restrictions on foreign' ownership of businesses and of real property be removed. It's ridiculous to keep it as it is. All the world wants trade globalization because it means increased trade and prosperity for everyone. And regardless of whether or not we want it, we have no choice. We are part of the world.

Protectionist policies only lead to inefficiency and uncompetitiveness. It only benefits and protects the very rich and leaves the poor Filipinos with no jobs and the economy listless.

And I find insulting the assertion that Filipinos are not good enough to withstand international competition

The country needs to be more business friendly, and removing the economic restrictions on foreign investors/investments should go a long way in jump starting the economy and improving the job market opportunities of Filipinos, etc.

Tell me about it. Among many, the Spanish ambassador said Spanish businessmen are eager to invest in the Philippines. They are just waiting for that provision to be changed.

I think a unicameral parliamentary form of govt, with the prime minister as the head of govt, is better than a presidential one. (See discussion.)

I think the special constitutional provision in the 1987 constitution providing for easier entry in congress of the marginal sectors of society is good. However, I would like this provision suspended until the communist NPA is no longer a force to contend with.

As it is, many of the NGOs are dominated by communists and are essentially communist legal fronts. A number of them got into congress the easy way, by virtue of this provision. As Congressmen, not only do communists have representation in Congress, they also receive large amounts of moneys from the government with little accounting as to where the fund goes.

This should not be allowed to continue. We can't be assisting communists further their goals while the NPA is killing our soldiers in the hills.

I agree. As it is, with the leftist domination of civil society, they should not even be considered a marginalized sector confused In fact,  the left is the only political group with a national army, the NPA, other than the government.
