SENATE President Manny Villar is pushing for the conferment of the National Artist Award on the King of Comedy to Dolphy in recognition of his outstanding achievement and artistic endeavors in the entertainment industry.
Dolphy is a living legend. He is ancient and so big in the Filipino entertainment business that he has been taught in universities as part of Philippine Arts and Cultural History for awhile now. Unknown to many Filipinos, Dolphy started as a vaudeville (bodabil) comedian in the early 1940s, the time of the Japanese Occupation. It was how he started in the entertainment business. He was helped in his career by Fernando Poe, Sr, the father of FPJ.
