Pagbalik ng US military bases

This is the article.

Ano sa tingin mo, totoo kaya ito? If true, do you approve of the return of the US military bases?

I don't have a strong stand for or against it. On the one hand, their presence in Mindanao would be good. Then, there would be a stronger law and order presence there, albeit a foreign one. But, on the other hand, America has been the most war-like nation in the last 50+ years, and may, again, suck us into another world war. And nothing is worth that. So, I don't really approve of their presence in the Philippines.

If the US instigates a world war, regardless of whether we have American bases here or not, we will be sucked into it. There are too many Americans living in the Philippines and Filipinos in America. And our interests and lives are intertwined too much. And, in WWII, Japan invaded the Philippines at about the same time as all the other neighboring countries .

I don't really particularly disapprove of the presence of US forces in the Philippines. As long as any treaty entered into between the US and RP will also bring some significant benefit to Filipinos. As it is, there is very little for us to gain with their presence and much to lose. In any case, should there be any such agreement, America must follow RP laws and not let the GIs get away with murder as they did under the original (1930s? 1940s?) military bases agreement when it would just ship off rapists and murderers...

I find the American presence in the Philippines disturbing.

America has been the most warlike country in the world after WWII. It invaded Iraq on the pretext of the war of terrorism. That is a mere subterfuge to steal Iraq's oil. America has also been demonizing China in the last decades for human rights violations, unfair trade practice, etc. This is obviously propaganda due to it's fear of the inevitable rebirth of China as the world's economic powerhouse.

Whatever benefits we may get from the US presence, it is not worth it. We don't want to be dragged into another of their wars. And this is minimized if they are kept out of the Philippines.
