Edgardo Gil Edjop Mirasol Jopson (1948-1982) Born into an upper-class family, Edjop was an unlikely activist and revolutionary. He was the valedictorian of Ateneo High School class 66 and a consistent honor student until his graduation from the Ateneo de Manila University. In the late 1960s, he won not only the presidency of the Ateneo College Student Council, but also the hotly contested top leadership of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP). In 1970, he was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines. He was one of the first arrested when martial law was declared.
Edjop started out as a moderate. During martial law, he eventually joined the communists in fighting Marcos and Martial Law. Edjop became a labor organizer and, still later, a high-ranking official of the underground revolutionary movement in Mindanao. Detention and torture did not stop him from pursuing the struggle. In 1982, he was wounded in a military raid. He bled to death.
